Bouzigues - a little pearl

On our last trip to Pézenas, we ventured down to the Etang in search of the well-known, upmarket village of Bouzigues. Beloved by French tourists and locals alike, it's less than a 30 minute drive from Pézenas, (on the Montagnac road), just past the very nice port town and beach at Meze.

It's famous for its seafood restaurants, all lined along the waterfront in a stunning setting. We arrived early for lunch, and discovered there's no such thing in France - all the restaurants were filling up nicely, with people opting for outdoor eating in the warm October sunshine.
Being perched right at the edge of the Etang, views from the restaurants are panoramic. Inside, many have old photos and memorabilia of fishermen and the village from the last century, testament to its grand history of oyster cultivation and fishing ("Les Huitres"). A visit to Bouzigues is a lovely "lazy day" out, with a short promenade for that obligatory French post-lunch stroll.
