Winter in Languedoc

Just returned from a New Year's break in Pezenas, having flown into Girona and met many holidaymakers on their way to the Pyrenees for a skiing break. We spent some time in a village called Guilhem le Desert, about 25 minutes drive north, and were stunned at its simple beauty. The whole area is so atmospheric, located in the Gorge d'Herault, and great walking trails abound. The water in the Gorges was a blue like I've rarely seen, reminiscent of the special hue of the Cote d'Azur. And the village itself was medieval perfection, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and was a stopover point of the Camino de Santiago route to Northern Spain.

The weather we experienced was cold and sunny, still a great relief from the low cloud and dullness of Northern Europe. Overall, a great trip and we hope to return next year at this time, maybe even to get some skiing in.....
