"The antique town of Pézenas is one of the quiet glories of southern France. What you see at the outset is a glorious place of elegant 17th- and 18th-century houses constructed in mellow, honey-coloured stone and graced with balconies and twirling wrought-iron. These gracious buildings exude a refined atmosphere and have an edge of grandeur entirely in keeping with Pézenas’s past as the capital of Languedoc". (The Independent, April 2011).
That's the opening paragraph of a nice article on visiting the old town heart of Pézenas. The medieval quarter is a great place to walk around and literally get lost - not as stressful as it sounds! There's plenty to interest and entertain, whilst embracing the sense of history and a distinguished past.
And if it all gets a little much in the Mediterranean summer heat, take a break in the "Place" with a refreshing drink at one of the many outdoor cafes and restaurants.
