The market town of Pézenas is situated just 10 miles inland from hundreds of kilometres of Mediterranean coastline, with mile-long sandy beaches, so it is easy to focus on the coastal resorts and forget about what lies north of Pézenas, that is - rolling countryside, spectacular scenery and walking/cycling routes, none more beautiful than Lac de Salagou - a freshwater lake siutated 25 minutes north of Pézenas. It's stunning, and features a "plage", campsite, and picnic areas, amongst other amenities. It's a great break from the coastal resorts which pack out in the height of summer.
